Dear Cousin John, We have 63 survivors, 30 acres of food, 3 houses, and religous freedom here in the New World. The original Pilgrims had 52 suvivors, 20 acres of food, 11 houses, 2 barrels of beaver fur, a peace treaty with the Natives, and religous freedom. 3 more people died in our colony.the Pilgrims have a lot more stuff than we did. Later today, we are planning a feast with all of the food we harvested. Victoria Peacock Febuary 14, 1621
Dear Cousin John, It is getting very cold here. We still have to build houses for our colony. I am very hungry and cold. Now that it is getting cold, it is very hard to find food for our colony. We have 3 houses build and we have 6 acres of land for crops but, they died. Now, 22 colonists have died because of disese, cold, and hunger. That is 31 people total that have died. I am very sad for those people that have died and I hope it will be better during the spring. Victoria Peacock November 14, 1620
Dear Cousin John, It is harsh in the New World. Ever since we got on land, men worked about 12 hours a day. We are wet and cold. 3 people were ill and died since the last letter I sent you. On the Mayflower, before we reached land, I was seasick and it was boring. We also wrote a compact and it said: Jeffery Peacock would make desisions for the colony. Jenifer Peacock will assign jobs for the colony. John Peacock is the captin/master. When John is absent, I will be the leader. Victoria Peacock November 12th, 1620
Dear Cousin John, We were sailing on the Mayflower. It was esausting. I had to stay in a tiny chamber with a lot of strangers. I had to stay in my dirty and soggy clothes. There was no privacy and only a chamber pot to use to go to the bathroom. I could only bring one small toy, which was getting boring. Lucky, we finally arrived. It took 3 months and 6 days to get there. I am hoping to have a better life in the new world. From, Victoria Peacock |
