Dear Busia,
November 26, 1621 During this past year we had 42 survivors, 27 acres of land and got a treaty from the Natives. We have had a tough time this year, faring worse than the Pilgrims did in alot of ways, but we got 7 more acres of land then them! We were not able to pay back the merchant that supplied us, but he reluctantly continued to supply us. We built 3 houses and the Pilgrims had 11. We were hoping for a better fortune, but didn't get any extra. The corn was the only crop that grew well. The Pilgrims may have beat us this year, but lets see about next time! Sincerely, Calvin Archbold

Dear Busia, We have went through some tough times recently in December, losing 40 colonists! We are hoping that Spring will give us better weather and fortune. We have accomplished a few things so far, like building 3 houses and now we have 5 acres of crops! We are slowly making progress, very slowly. We are just able to survive with the food we got. I think that was the worst time we will face. I'll send you another letter soon, so for now good bye! Sincerely, Calvin Archbold Dear Busia,
Since the last time I have wrote to you, some terrible things have happened. We have lost 7 Pilgrims in total so far, which unfortunately includes Uncle Pete. We have also made a very important contract called the Mayflower Compact. We are very hungry, tired, cold, and do not have many supplies We haven't been able to build anything yet. We are very scared of the Native Americans attacking us. We wrote our compact to maintain order and control. The compact says how we will get leaders and what we will do if something goes wrong. December 30, 1620 Sincerely, Calvin Archbold December 25 1620
Dear Busia, At first I was excited to travel in the Mayflower, and the thought of finding a new land made my brain explode, but once we started traveling I found out it wasn't going to go uphill. First we made some steady progress, but then a terrible storm started and we couldn't couldn't control the ship, so we went a little off course. Then our main beam broke and we had to repair it, and we got a few more miles before we had to take the sails down because of a massive storm. That cost us the most because we went off track by alot! Lucky for us, we got some nice strong wind blowing at our backs, so we made up for our loss in time. We arrived in December right on Christmas which I call extremely lucky! We fortunatley lost 0 people during the journey. Sincerely, Calvin Archbold |
