Dear Martha, I am writing after a hard day of work. Today we created our settlement. It was very hard and we suffered 4 losses. The first thing we did even before we left our ship was create the Columbia compact. This was important so that if we had a problem we could resolve it and it stated the law. Then after that we scouted the land for about a month until we found a suitable place to live. The place was easy to defend, it also had a good water source and lots of trees nearby. Finally we started building our settlement. The first thing we built was our common house so that we can store our food. After that we build houses. Some people felled trees but I helped build the houses. We originally had 7 houses but some people worked more hours and got another house done. So in total we 8 houses. But we fear that the Indians are spying on us and we think they may attack us. But I'm really tired because as dad I worked more hours so I'm signing off here. Bye.

Dear Martha,
It's October 5, 1620 and I'm writing to inform you that our voyage to the New World was successful. We arrived a little ahead of schedule and we lost no pilgrims. The ship was called the Mayflower and it had 6 sails. But not every thing went as planned. About halfway through the voyage a terrible storm hit. The winds were very violent and our clothing and food got soaked. There were still lots of problems. We were bored, we were seasick, and we were being thrown against walls and getting injured. Things that were in the hold were things like Wine, water, sugar, spices, rice, oatmeal, meat, and Cheese plus furniture and tools. We didn't have a lot of space either. The great Cabin witch had the master, the chief officers, the captain, and the ships apprentices. During the voyage we had Oatmeal, Peas, Fish, Beans, and Cheese because they could be stored for a long time. so the voyage wasn't that bad. Dear Martha,
Me my wife, Bridget Bradford decided to move to the new world. We are moving with my wife and my 2 children. We left England 6 weeks ago because we were forced to worship god in a way we didn't want to. So we are moving because we want to worship god in a different way. But Holland didn't get much better. The first couple weeks we were there our kids Ann and William Jr. were starting to forget the English language and the English culture. So we made a decision to move to the new world because we wanted a better life. We will get all the supplies from a company but in order to repay the company we must give them all the resources we don't need that we harvest in the new world. From, William Bradford |
