dear, Martha We have lost 25 colonists on our trip and hope we survive with 103-25=78 so we are losing them fast. But we have gained the natives trust that are split up into different groups. with so many people we decided to make peace rules with them. Rule 1 natives can not hurt the pilgrims or they will be sent over to the pilgrims Rule 2 any pilgrim who hurts a native will be punished. Rule 3 each group will help other groups if in attack of any people Rule 4 no weapons carried to meetings or trading. Our family was able to trade with the natives and get porcupine fur cause it is is rare in England and the company who owns they own the land we are building on and living on but only got 1 barrel and we need 2 or 3. Dear Martha, We have finished our Compact that was saying that we will make decisions that are fair on our SeaPower compact for now. We have also made 5 homes due to the good weather we think we can hold 20-30 people in all the homes. We think we may need to double up in families to keep all the people safe. Me an Mary had to work hard Mary had to get wood and then I would chop it up for the kids to build the house walls with. Mary also had to make the roof, chimney, window and door wile the kids were making the walls. It has became winter and we think we will survive but we have lost 19 people on our journey we lost 2 unknown we think there may be others on the new world. From, Richard November 15, 1620
Dear Martha, The trip was pretty crazy with 102-103 pilgrims on the ship and we could barely go up on the deck and had to stay down stairs in the little crammed area. There were also 30 crew members to do the jobs that were on the ship like the wind powered sails that had 6 sails with 55 lines and another job was to steer the ship but the thing is that you are being "YELLED AT" where to go. There wasn't a variety of food there only was oat meal, cheese, peas, fish, pork and beans because most of the food was long lasting food the drinks were wine and water. Most of the time we were sea sick, bored or hurt by the sea's waves rocking us. the only way you could tell were you are going so the master has to use the stars and longitude. If you are the Master, Captain, Chef Officer and the apprentice. That is how crazy It has been on the Mayflower. From, Richard Dearest sister Martha
My family has deciding to go to the new world because we decided to be separated from the terrible church of England because we could't worship there religion so we decided to move to Holland. After we got to Holland it was fine till we found out that our kid were forgetting the english language and customs. That is why we are going to the new world. From, Richard |
