Dear Aunt Sandy, We survived the first year! Today we are going to celebrate are first successful harvest with a big feast! Though we only have 42 people living, we got peace with the Natives. Sadly, we only built 2 houses and we can not pay for our supplies. Thankfully, we got 23 acres of food. Life in the new world is great, Elizabeth Browne March 5 1621
Dear Aunt Sandy, We are struggling in the new world. We are very crowded in the two homes we have, and don't get me started about the deaths. Since my last letter we lost 27 people. That might not seem like a lot for two months but now there is only about 40 pilgrims left. There is a strange sickness that is going around. I am very scared for my children, but so far nobody in the Browne family has perished. I am also scared about the lack of food the children are getting. Snow is now are worst enemy for crops. I pray every day for the sun to come out of the clouds, and melt the snow away, Elizabeth Browne December 19 1620
Dear Aunt Sandy, I am more hungry then ever now, and most people are very ill. Since my last letter we lost 8 people. I am trying my best to feed the children but it is no use, the children are always groaning for food. Winter is growing and it is getting very cold, but we are still worried about the Native Americans. I hope that we can make things better in spring, Elizabeth Browne December 15 1620
Dear Aunt Sandy, We found the new world and we are very hungry. It is also very cold now that it is december. On the mayflower we were forced to stay in the bottom of the ship and get thrown on the wall of the ship. Many people on are colony got injuries. Two of are people sadly died, Riley Davidson and cousin Elizabeth Svoboda. Lets hope there are less deaths in the knew world, Elizabeth Browne |
