Dear Martha, Today I am writing from the grave, I sadly died of the plague and 8 others. We were able to build one more house because the weather is getting warmer and the sickness is leaving us

Dear Martha, We have built are settlement in the woods, we have built 6 new houses in the woods. We have lost 9 colonists from sickness. I felled the trees and turned them to timber, Bridget, Alice, and Henry built the houses even though we still have colonists living on The Bluejay. We all have to stop building for the winter because the weather is so horrible and some of us are starting to get sick. When we were building two colonists got lost in the woods and we could not find them. We have voted for a leader and vice leader, we are going to let him have the most power on decisions but not all. Sincerly, James Cardwell November 13, 1620
Dear Martha, The voyage was horrible, cramped in with a bunch of strangers. First, we got in all cramped with a little bit of body space. We were about half way through the journey we were in a huge storm and the main beam broke, and all of us got soaked. When the crew was fixing the beam I heard them saying we might turn back. But when they fixed it they all wanted to keep going because we were already so far already. All are cloths are soaked from the beam breaking, none of us can sleep with soaked cloths. We are all super uncomfortable because we all have cramps and barley get fresh air. Sincerely, James Cardwell Dear Martha,
This is your step brother James, Bridget and I decided we are moving to the new world today. When we had moved to Holland we thought it would be better for the kids because King Henry was making us worship God in a way the kids were not learning English traits, we are having a really tuff time here in Holland. We thought Holland would let us worship God as christians. But Holland was making the kids less English and more Dutch. So Bridget and I agreed the only way for the kids to learn the christian way of worshiping God when at the same time staying English. So the family and I moved back to England and King James, so we are getting ready for the trip to the new world. We are in England's dock getting ready to leave for the new world. Sincerely, James Cardwell |
